X-mas boogie in Morocco

Blog post by Sarah Beckers sarah

This year, I am spending the winter in cold Belgium. So for the first time in years, I was sitting in the office lately. Most of the time I sat there, getting bored and staring out of the window. I would dream about warm places, where the sound of the plane wakes you up, the opening sound of parachutes makes you look up in the sky and five minutes calls interrupt your conversation continuously. The longer I was sitting there, the more it was clear that I had to break this winter up with a skydiving holiday. So, while everyone else was preparing for a big Christmas dinner with family and a sprankling New Years party with friends, I was trying to decide which X-mas boogie to go to. So, I started to make a budget plan: X euros for the flight, Y euros for the hotel, the rest for beer and skydiving. Alright, I was ready to go.

web_img_1852I opted to go to Beni Mellal in Morocco for several reasons. Not only would it be cheap, warm and relaxed, I would also be able to see my friends from Airboss again. Airboss is a Dutch skydiving school that organizes trips to Spain, France and Morocco. It’s a very professional organization (although they’ve been unlucky with their decision not to use the trouble free CYPRES as their choice of AAD) and always fun to have them around. It was with them that I did my first jump course six years ago and in the few years after that, I visited them every summer in France. The last three years I had been too busy travelling so I was looking forward to seeing them again.

For a moment I feared that the rain had not only ruined the landing area, but also my skydiving holiday. Surprisingly enough, they pushed the plane out of the hangar by noon the next day and only a little while later we were gearing up for our first jump. Life is good, but it was about to get even better!

web_pict0358While Airboss was putting their students through the AFF course, I was going on every load for some freefly jumps. In the evenings, I was pleased to enjoy the traditional free beers that come with first jump courses. By the time New years Eve was coming up, everybody had a few jumps under their belt so we were ready for a big party. We enjoyed the beer, food, music and not in the least each others company. We won the running competition for the longest word and celebrated the New Year with a bottle of champagne offered to us by Airboss. Still, the party couldn’t keep us from jumping cause the next day wheels were up at nine once again for not less then 9 loads. Good start of 2010.

I can say say that I had a great holiday with a lot of skydives, beers, sun and fun. I enjoyed some very special moments with very special people. The only negative thing worth mentioning would be the little runway issue, but that would be a little floccinaucinihilipilificationistic. web_pict0307-verbetering

Right now, I’m sitting in the office and once again I’m staring out of the window. The skies are blue and the winds are low. Unfortunately there is no engine roaring and there are no people running around in colorful jumpsuits. There are no cheers to be heard and no smiley faces to be seen. I think I will leave the incoming orders for what it is and surf the web for a new destination. Airboss is going to Sevilla in April…. anyone?
