Freefall Festival in Puerto Rico

Freefall Festival in Puerto Rico February 2010

After 15 hours of flight with stopovers in Munich and Philadelphia Regina and me were happy to finally land at the airport in Puerto Rico and went to the rental car station. Unfortunately they just had to send back all their Toyota's because of a recall. So we had to wait for another 2.5 hours for the car and arrived finally at 3 o´clock at our hotel in order to went to sleep right away.dsc03154

Four hours later we went to the DZ and met Rori and Muny, two friends from our time in Lillo, Spain, who also came over for the boogie. Rori also has family on P.R..

Next we met Viviana who together with Jason organized this whole event. She gave us a little backpack including a bottle of rum from „Rums of Puerto Rico“ who was one of the sponsors.dsc03157

That was a good start already!

More and more people arrived and while we put up our famous CYPRES tent the first load went up at around ten O` clock. The weather was nice (around 35 degree C.) and together with Bob Marley out of the boxes it gave everybody the Caribbean feeling. This feeling was even intensified by the parties in the evening: Free beer, free Rum, live music and dancing show, beach party with Rum from the ice-butt etc.

Of course during theday the more than 200 skydivers made good use of the three Twin Otters to land on the DZ or on the beach while we did a lot of talking with many nice people who wanted to get the news about CYPRES.

Local vendors sold food and cold drinks to make sure we all survived the day. dsc03198

Except for one morning when it was raining a bit the planes went up and down all the time to keep the skydivers happy.

One of the highlights of the boogie were of course the sunset beach landings.

Unfortunately time went by very fast and after five nice days it was time to say:

good bye and see you next year!!!

Thanks to Viviana and Jason, Amy C., Shoun Tierney (for this fantastic aerial photo), Joe Sallas, Range, Tom and Mandy Schroder -
and of course all the skydivers that came to our tent for some informations or just a for a little chat.
